Spring has now officially Sprung in Niseko – but sometimes it’s a little hard to tell! Along with some lovely early spring sun, March madness has continued well into the end of the month with some consistent powder top-ups and some exciting events on the horizon!
Snow has been falling since Tuesday after the weekend’s warmer temperatures, and will likely continue this evening before the milder climes of next week. With the snow machine pumping and more than enough sun to go around, March has got plenty more to throw at us!
Phenomena – Niseko Short Film Festival – Friday 24th March
The last few days have seen budding film-makers, directors and actors scrambling to put together their own short films, to enter into Niseko’s own Short Film Festival.
The theme is “Nature, Space & the Unknown”, and competition rules dictated that anything goes, as long as films featured Mount Yotei, a map, and a vehicle. We’re excited to see the results tonight at the screening, which kicks off at 7 p.m.
With other 200,000 JPY worth of prizes, competition (and surely, the quality!) is expected to be fierce, so get yourself down to MnK tonight to encounter some phenomenal short films.
Spring Fireworks – Saturday 25th March
Although Niseko’s famed night skiing has now come to a close, the Niseko Grand Hirafu Resort will be softening the blow and harkening in the arrival of Spring with a fabulous fireworks display at the bottom of one of their most popular slopes, the ‘Alpen’ course.
On Saturday, 25th March, the first firing of rockets will signify the first weekend of Spring, and will take off at around 7 p.m. The current weather forecast predicts clear skies and low winds — perfect for fireworks — but will be seriously nippy, so make sure you wrap up warm!
