June and July have been absolutely packed with refined concerts, exhibitions, and viewings that demonstrate the cultural clout that Niseko and its surrounding areas can deliver.
In the last week or two, we’ve been lucky enough to see Yoko Arano, distinguished local calligrapher and some of her amazing artwork in the Kiyoe Gallery (being lucky enough to witness a live demonstration of the master working), as well as a brilliant little piano concert with player/composer, Hajime Fukuda.
Next up is the NISEKO JAZZ FESTIVAL, hosted by Pension FULLNOTE and WOODY NOTE. These pensions have been a part of Niseko Musical history for decades, and over the years have been involved in a number of exciting musical projects in and around town.
This year, they host the Niseko Jazz Festival which will include performances from THE GALAXY EXPRESS, an incredible big-band group based in Sapporo; and – as is expected from the NOTES – performances from local artists too. After 90 minutes of toe-tapping stylings & food for the soul, there will be a large BBQ feast, with the bar opening later. Can’t have the body feeling left out… and don’t worry, there’ll be music throughout the evening!

And for all of you culture vultures out there, we also have the AYA Niseko Art Festival to look forward to from the 15th-17th of July, and a bunch of other matsuri festivals and local events on the horizon. Watch this space for more things to do and see (…and drink) in the coming weeks!
