Spring Rafting

Once the Spring comes, the Niseko snow-generator goes into hibernation, and rising temperatures, longer hours of daylight, and a halted top-up of top quality powder result in a surprisingly speedy and contrasted change of scene.

At the end of the season, the copious winter snowfall makes way for rushing alpine snowmelt, allowing Niseko to transform into one of the greatest rafting locations in Asia.

The most popular local spot, the Shiribetsu River, or Shiribetsugawa, is well-known for its gushing rapids, forest-lined shores, and picture-perfect views of local stratovolcano, Mt. Yotei.

Ideal for families, young, and older groups alike, rafting allows adventurers to embark upon unique water-bound journeys, ranging from gushing, foam-splashing rapids that will test the intermediate rafter – to light paddles on calm waters for those in search of a more relaxing jaunt.

With many different types of boats available, you need not be stick to rafting alone: Options include—but are not limited to—canoeing, kayaking and sea kayaking, ducky (a type of inflatable kayak), and stand-up-paddle boarding (SUP).

Discover Niseko’s local waters, venture further afield to ride the Sapporo Toyohiro rapids, or even explore the hidden sea-caves of Shakotan with NAC (Niseko Adventure Centre). NAC provide transportation, equipment, expert instruction and guiding, and if you’re feeling hungry after a day of battling the waves – a delicious meal at JoJo’s!

Overwhelmingly fresh and green, Niseko is truly beautiful in the Spring, and paired with a swift river swell bolstered by the snow, Spring rafting is a unique and memorable experience that everyone in the area should try.
